Installation view of Object, the exhibition by Belgian sculptor Lionel Pennings presented at Espronceda Institute of Art & Culture in Barcelona as part of the ARBA-ESA/Espronceda Award Prize residency.

Lionel Pennings, Belgian emerging artist, is the winner of the third edition of the ARBA-ESA/ESPRONCEDA Award Prize (Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels in cooperation with the city of Brussels).

The exhibition «Object» is the result of his artistic research, curated by Savina Tarsitano. The opening on the 13th took place in the presence of the artistic director of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels, Enzo Pezzella.
Lionel was born in 1993 in Brussels, Belgium, where he lives. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels (ERBA-ESA), where he obtained his master’s degree in sculpture. His work has been exhibited in Brussels. Lionel Pennings won the GodeCharles Award Prize, receiving a fellowship from the GodeCharles Foundation. The prize allows young talents, unknown before the award, to be recognised by a panel of experts made up of renowned artists. In 2019 he received the ARBA-ESA/ESPRONCEDA Award Prize for an artistic and research residency in Barcelona, providing him with time for artistic research and a final exhibition. His work is grounded in the history of archaeology from an aesthetic perspective. His research questions matter and form, and their impact on the collective imagination.
