Paula Cortazar (Monterrey, Mexico, 1991), currently lives and works in Monterrey, Mexico. Her practice is based mainly on the contemplation of nature. Inspired by her surroundings, her work focuses on plants, river stones, mountains, and other natural elements that can be found near her studio. As a sculptor, she works mostly with stone. But her practice sometimes shifts to other mediums, such as drawing, video and photography.
She graduated with honors from the University of Monterrey; She has been recognized with the 2015-2016 and 2020-2021 Young Creators Scholarship. She has exhibited in Mexico, France, USA, Denmark and Italy. Her work is part of the permanent collections of museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Monterrey and of collections such as the Moisés Cosio Foundation in Mexico City, Catherine Petitgas in London and the Schöpfin Stiftung in Germany.
