Character & mask-making workshop with Nora Schmel

CHARACTER & MASK MAKING WORKSHOP
inspired by THE GUERRILLA GIRLS

WORKSHOP LEADER: NORA SCHMEL

Inspired by Female Artists #2

At this two days workshop we study the feminist activist artists, The Guerilla Girls, and make our own characters and masks for a hypothetical activist scenario. The aim of this workshop to get familiar with alternative ways of activism and how can action for change influence creative activities or the other way round. We’ll broaden our perspective on historical moments by this anonymous female group fighting sexism and racism and look at the symbols behind their gorilla masks.

Followed by the presentation and discussion, we individually create fictional advocates to support our motivations and design faces responding to our own point of view!

About the INSPIRED BY FEMALE ARTISTS’ WORKSHOP SERIES

In this workshop series, we look into and get inspired by artworks made by female artists. The aim is not only to draw focus on and learn about women in art but also explore concepts, techniques and methods that these artists work with. At each workshop we focus on one artist or artist group and get our brains and hands working.
