RISE UP in Les: A Celebration of Dance, Art, Language & Community. WHAT?! – RISE UP Travelling Exhibition

The RISE UP Travelling Exhibition, organised by ESPRONCEDA Institute of Art & Culture, arrived in Les, Val d’Aran on August 2nd, as part of the celebration of over 75 years of traditional dance, with the participation of the iconic local dance group Es Corbilhuèrs de Les. This time, the exhibition arrives in the heart of La Val d’Aran not only as a celebration of culture and creativity, but as a powerful statement in support of Aranese, the native language of this unique region.

Hosted by the Ajuntament de Les, the event transformed the town hall into a space for artistic dialogue, cultural reflection, and collective celebration.

This edition is part of NEB & Inclusion 2025, Espronceda’s annual artistic research programme inspired by the values of the New European Bauhaus, which promotes a more beautiful, inclusive and sustainable Europe.

As part of the RISE UP project — co-funded by the European Union — the exhibition showcases original works by five artists from minoritised language communities across Europe. Each artist was invited to reflect on two questions:
What would you say to your community? What would you say to people outside your community?

Artists:
Teano Kardula · Ricard Novell · Lianne Wilson · Viktoria Ratasich · Yhely Hälvin

Through artworks and contextual panels, the exhibition opened a space for visitors to reflect on identity, language, belonging, and the power of community. Activities included games in Aranese for children, performances, and encounters that fostered learning, joy, and cultural exchange.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Ajuntament de Les, Es Corbilhuèrs de Les, and the entire Val d’Aran community for your warmth and support.
