Larisse Hall lives in and works from Nelson, New Zealand (since 2001). Born 1970 in Auckland,
New Zealand, Hall is of Pakeha and Waikato Tainui descent. She lives an organic lifestyle with
the future in mind. This supports the whakatauki:
‘Manaaki whenua. Manaaki tāngata. Haere whakamua.’
(Care for the land. Care for the people. So, we may go forward.)
This ethos is the basis of her life and art practice.
Graduating in 1992, Hall won the Arte Laguna (Italy) 16 / 21-22 Special Prize in 2022. An Artist Residency / Exhibition at Espronceda in Barcelona, Spain.

In 2018, Hall had work selected to exhibit digitally internationally, as a finalist in Art Takes SOHO
2018 (See.Me) and Art Takes Miami 2018 (Scope See.Me).
In 2015, Hall’s light sculpture ‘Flirt’ was long listed in the Aesthetica Art Prize, England. Since
2015, Hall has tutored part time at Te Pukenga NZ Institute of Skills and Technology (formerly
NMIT).
In 2014 Hall had her work ‘Take My Hand (and keep me Safe)’ selected to exhibit in the See.Me Takeover Times Square, New York City 2014 and other works in See.Me Art Takes Miami 2014. In 2013 she was selected as a finalist in See.Me, Art Takes Miami 2013. She has been selected for numerous other awards, both nationally and internationally since 2013. A full-time artist since 2008, Hall first explored the use of light and time within her work in 2015.
A unique and newly invented genre – Hall refers to her work as ‘light infused painting’. Fusing the ethereal quality of light with the materiality of paint and form, she uses light, our oldest ‘time tool’, as both medium and time reference. Time is a constant yet not an infinite resource.
